I was experimenting with two ideas in this arrangement.
1) The song is about seeking, and I was alway fascinated with the ideas of lonely, pulsating beacons, the sounds or lights of which grow or fade with the seeker's proximity to the goal... hence the ostinato pulse in the piano
2) the Sheperd scale, which my dad Richard Felciano inroduced me too is a kind of aural Escher staircase, a perpetual ascending scale that never leaves the limited range it's in.
